Borderline Personality Disorder

An Art Therpy Presentation by Jessica Dodd

BPD is Biological, Neurological and Genetic.

BPD is caused by a dysfunction of the Limbic area of the Brain, which controls emotion.

People with BPD often have unstable patterns in regards to their social relationships.People with the disorder may develop intense but disturbed attachments, their feelings towards family, friends, and even loved ones can suddenly shift from admiration and love to intense anger and dislike. Even with family members, high sensitivity is prevelant and causing them to feel rejected, reacting with anger and distress.
Mild separations such as vacations, business trips, or a sudden change in plans can cause fears of abandonment.
These fears seem to be related to difficulties feeling emotionally connected to people when they are physically absent, the individual with BPD might feel lost or perhaps worthless. The intensity the disorder brings on sometimes even results in suicide attempts.

Behavior of people with BPD exhibit:
excessive spending, promiscuity, gambling, drug or alcohol abuse, shoplifting, overeating or physically self-damaging actions.

BPD often occurs together with other psychiatric problems, particularly bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and other personality disorders.
